Miami Gardens Police Investigate Series of Deadly Shootings

Miami Gardens police are investigating a series of five shootings that took place since last Saturday. A total of eight people were shot, four of them died. The community and police officers are fed up with the violence.

“All the efforts we’re doing here in the city, I mean, it’s ridiculous how people don’t value other people’s lives,” said Chief Delma Noel-Pratt of Miami Gardens police.

The latest arrest came Sunday evening. An anonymous tip led to the arrest of Jamal Bethel, 22. The suspect was considered armed and dangerous following Thursday's shooting outside of a Family Dollar store on Northwest 27th Avenue. Police said an argument that started in the store escalated outside with Bethel shooting a man before taking off.

But investigators still need help tracking down whoever is responsible for targeting two men. Donald Armstrong, 23, and Stephen Campbell, 23, were shot underneath the Palmetto expressway and Northwest 27th Avenue Saturday. Both men died.

“I got to stand strong for Mike and find out who did this,” said Charmaine Roundtree, the victim’s mother.

Michael Mathis, 21, was shot and killed last Saturday in front of a Miami Garden’s store. Police said they are looking for a gold 2007 to 2011 Toyota Camry. It has dark tinted windows and a missing hubcap on the right front tire.

“I want to know how bad was it that you had to pull up on my son, shoot my son, kill my son. Our family is hurting,” said Roundtree.

The Chief of Police is overseeing all of these cases in Miami Gardens. She believes witnesses could help them bring the killers and gunmen to justice.

“If you’re a witness and you saw something, there was a bill passed last year, it protects you. Come out here, let us know if you know anything whatsoever,” said Noel-Pratt.
