Firefighter Hurt After Blaze Burns Miami Gardens Storage Facility

Renters were locked out of their units for hours on Tuesday as firefighters responded to a fire at a storage facility in Miami Gardens.

The Public Storage facility on NW 4th Avenue and NW 170th Street erupted in flames at around 9:30 a.m., according to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue. One unit caught on fire and spread to three additional units in the building.

"When our units arrived, they found heavy smoke coming out of one unit, they made entry (and) had to use our saws to cut entry because the unit was locked,” Lieutenant Kirsten Miller of Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said.

People who rented storage units stopped by throughout the day to see if their units were of the ones affected. Firefighters did not let anyone on the scene.

Firefighters worked for hours to ensure the flames were not rekindled.

One firefighter was was transported to the hospital for a minor injury but is expected to recover, Miller said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
