Miami Heat to Wear Gold-Trimmed Jerseys on Opening Night

Heat's jerseys and warmups get gold treatment for ring ceremony

Like a kid before the first day of school, the Miami Heat have set aside something special to wear for their season opener next Tuesday. The Heat will celebrate their second straight NBA title with a one-of-a-kind uniform set at the AmericanAirlines Arena.

ESPN's Darren Rovell reported Wednesday morning that the Heat will use special gold-trimmed jerseys when they play the Chicago Bulls on Tuesday.

Additionally, the Heat will wear a special warmup jacket during the pregame ring ceremony. The jacket also features gold trim, plus a large rendering of the Larry O'Brien trophy on the back. The jacket is now for sale on at NBA Store, along with other items in the "Ring Collection."

The Heat are not the first team to employ gold trim on Opening Night following a championship run. The Boston Red Sox kicked off the trend on Opening Day 2005, when they were awarded rings for their 2004 World Series championship.

Last season the Heat wore gold-trimmed warmups during their on-court ring ceremony on Opening Night.

The Heat, odds-on favorites to win the 2014 NBA Finals, open the 2013-14 season on October 29 with a date against Derrick Rose and the Chicago Bulls.
