Miami Hurricanes Renew Rivalry With Notre Dame This Weekend on NBC 6

It was one of the best rivalries in all of college football during the 1980’s– now, the Miami Hurricanes and Notre Dame Fighting Irish will meet for just the third time in a quarter century this weekend.

Miami will travel to South Bend, Indiana for the first time since 1990. Kickoff is at 3:30 PM and you can watch it all on NBC 6.

Notre Dame leads the all-time series 17-7-1, but the Hurricanes won six of the eight games played between 1981 and 1989. The series produced some memorable games (Notre Dame’s controversial 31-30 win in 1988) and moments (Randal Hill’s famous “3rd and 43” catch in the 1989 game).

Since the yearly rivalry ended after the 1990 season, the teams have met just twice – in the 2010 Sun Bowl and during the 2012 season in Chicago, both wins by Notre Dame by a combined score of 74-20.

The 2016 game was highly anticipated to start the season, but has lost some national appeal after struggles by both teams this season. Miami sits at 4-3, losing their last three games, while Notre Dame’s record is 2-5 during a season they were expected to compete for a national title.

Under an agreement between Notre Dame and the ACC, the two teams will see each other more often. Miami will host Notre Dame on November 11, 2017 while the two teams will meet again during the 2024 and 2025 seasons.
