Miami Marathon Gets Off to Coldest Start in Race History

More than 24,000 runners took to the streets of Miami early Sunday for the 14th annual Miami Marathon. The 46-degree temperature at start time was the coldest in race history.

"They're here to run everything from 13.1 miles all the way to 26.2 many raising millions of dollars for charitable causes," said Javier Sanchez, Race Director of Miami Marathon. "What's not special about this?"

Race organizers told The Miami Herald that more than 3,000 runners who had registered to participate in the popular marathon and half marathon missed the event because of travel issues related to the massive winter storm that hit the East Coast on Saturday.
