Miami Police Officer Relieved of Duty After Alleged Brutality

An officer with the Miami Police Department has been relieved of duty following a situation involving alleged brutality.

Video surfaced on social media showing the arrest of a suspect and then an officer punching that suspect inside a squad car.

Police held a news conference on Thursday evening, announcing that officer has since been relieved of duty and has turned in his gun and badge.

The officer's name has not been released.

In addition, police have not released the suspect's name or the reason he was in custody.

The incident remains under investigation.

Major Delrish Moss with the department released the following statement: "We have seen the video and we have launched a full internal affairs investigation into the matter. We take that responsibility very seriously. The officer involved in the incident will be relieved of duty as we investigate."

The Miami Fraternal Order of Police released the following statement, in part: "The FOP is confident that when everything is analyzed within the totality of the circumstances, it will be concluded that the police officer was doing what he is supposed to be doing: Protecting our community."
