Miami Police Officer William Gonzalez Relieved of Duty: Department Spokesman

He has been relieved of duty with pay as police conduct an investigation

An eight-year veteran of the Miami police force has been relieved of duty with pay while an investigation continues, police said.

Officer William Gonzalez, 28, was relieved of duty Tuesday, Miami police spokesman Napier Velazquez said.

Velazquez said the department is conducting an investigation, but did not provide details about why Gonzalez is being investigated.

Gonzalez is a member of the department’s crime suppression unit.

The news follows the arrests of three former or current Miami police officers in the last week.

Also on Wednesday, former Miami police officer Juan “Johnny” Herrera turned himself in to face charges in a September hit-and-run crash, authorities said. His attorney said Herrera – who posted bond and was freed from jail Wednesday afternoon – shouldn’t be judged by the one incident.

Two more current Miami officers, Luis Hernandez and Harold James, were arrested in different cases last week.
