Miami Police Respond to Video Showing Alleged Brutality

A six-year veteran with the Miami Police Department has been stripped of his badge and gun, after disturbing video surfaced.

The video that was posted on YouTube shows Officer John Hinson allegedly roughing up a handcuffed suspect in the backseat of his patrol car.

The incident happened in the 1800 block of Northwest 94th Street in Miami on Thursday.

According to the police report, authorities were investigating Tony Jose Zaldivar, 26, for disorderly conduct and trespassing, when he allegedly became irate and began cursing at the officer.

Moments later, a large group of citizens started to gather, including the woman who filmed the altercation. She said another officer then knocked the camera out of her hand.

Major Delrish Moss said the video does not represent the majority of the force, "99 percent of officers who work every day, do a good job."

He added while their job is stressful, they've taken an oath to serve and protect.

Major Moss said, while the video is a concern, sometimes cops need policing as well, "We're gonna investigate this thoroughly. If we find that the actions were inappropriate, then the officer will receive appropriate punishment."

Officer Hinson has been suspended with pay, pending the outcome of the investigation.
