Miramar Church Remembers Pastor Killed in Plane Crash

The Miramar Christian Center International congregation was one of millions around the world who were saddened when well-known evangelist Dr. Myles Munroe and eight others were killed in a Bahamian plane crash Sunday.

“I’m like, ‘God, I just don’t understand,’” said Sylvia Niesh. “I mean, we used to call him Grandpa.”

Munroe oversaw Miramar Christian International for 13 years. Munroe visited the Miramar church multiple times along with his right-hand man, Dr. Richard Pinder, who was also killed in the crash.

“He (Munroe) was real. He taught what Jesus taught,” Niesh said. “The kingdom, how we should live here on earth. He said go out and teach the kingdom message just like Jesus taught and that’s what we started adopting.”

Munroe, 60, was an internationally known Christian preacher and motivational speaker. He frequently appeared before mass audiences at Christian events with other widely known preachers, like Bishop T.D. Jakes and Bishop Eddie Long, and he was associated during the early 2000s with the Promise Keepers movement, a Christian ministry focused on strengthening the role of men in Christian life.

Niesh said through his work, motivational speeches and more than 100 books; she’s certain even though his body his gone, his influence will continue to live on.

“He planted a seed. We are to take it and run with it,” Niesh said. “We are not to let it die because the work that he did was not in vain.”
