Miramar Firefighter Helps Save Couple From Burning Car in Martin County

A Martin County couple is thankful to be alive after being saved from a burning car following an accident this weekend by several good Samaritans – including an off-duty firefighter from Broward County.

The single car crash took place in wooded area off Kanner Highway south of Stuart, according to NBC affiliate WPTV. A deputy passing by saw several people running toward a car that had visible flames inside and smoke coming from the front end after hitting a pole.

One of the people who responded to help was Capt. Bruce Hill, a member of the Miramar Fire Department. Hill and the deputy, David Yun, were able to pull the female driver and her male passenger out of the car before it became engulfed in flames and exploded.

“With being a firefighter, you’re a firefighter 24 hours – whether you’re on duty or off duty, you’re always there,” Hill said.

An off duty nurse helped the victims until paramedics arrived. The couple was taken to an area hospital to be treated for their injuries as officials continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
