Miami-Dade Police are investing the death of a three-year-old boy that comes a few days after an incident that led to the mother being arrested on charges of child abuse and neglect.
The boy died Monday, according to Miami-Dade Police. The mother has not been charged with any crime related to the death.
On April 18th, the mother, Selena Mayeli Perez-Perez, 18, was arrested after Homestead Hospital officers called police about possible child abuse.
Neighbors said they heard the boy had fallen and hurt himself before being taken to the hospital.
The police report said the child had multiple bruises to his elbow, back, and legs and also had a human bite mark on his back. Doctors also told police the child’s teeth were “severely rotten.”
Miami-Dade Police said Perez admitted post-Miranda that she struck the child in the back with a belt that left a bruise.
Police arrested Perez on Tuesday on two counts of child abuse with no great bodily harm.
