Mom Arrested After Tot Found in Street

Garbage man finds 4-year-old in the middle of Hialeah street

A mother in Hialeah is behind bars after her young child was found wandering in the middle of a street while she was passed out inside her home.

Jacqueline Perez, 28, was arrested and charged with child neglect after she couldn't explain why her 4-year old was out of the house Thursday morning.

Police responded to the home on the 200 block of E. 57th St. around 10 a.m. after they got a call from a garbage man who found the 4-year-old in the middle of the street.

Perez was found asleep on a bed inside the home. Authorities claim Perez had passed out because she was using drugs.

The child, who was unharmed, was in the process of being placed in the care of the Department of Children and Families, police said.

Officials decided to let the child stay with Perez's mother.
