Abandoned Tot's Mom Found in Hospital

Mother found in a hospital after nearly four days

The mother of a 2-year-old boy who was allegedly left with a stranger over the weekend has been found a local hospital, authorities said Tuesday.

Glenda Robinson Maldanado, 32, is being treated for non-life threatening injuries, Miami Police said, but they did not disclose what hospital.

Her toddler will remain in the custody of the Department of Children and Families, a Miami-Dade judge ruled earlier in the day.

The little boy, whose name has not been released, was found with a stranger in Overtown on Saturday.

Maldanado is accused of dropping the tot off to the stranger, who didn't even know the woman's name, Miami police said.

The man told detectives Maldanado came to his apartment Friday night and told him she needed to run out but she would be right back to get her son.

He agreed to watch the boy, but the woman never returned, police said. He told cops the woman's name was "Brenda" or "Glenda."

Maldanado, who has four other children that were also taken away by DCF, officials said in a court hearing Tuesday. Police are waiting to question the woman about the weekend incident.

A man who identified himself as the child's father wanted custody of the child, but the judge ordered him to take drug and paternity tests.
