Monroe Sheriff's Office Sergeant Arrested, Accused of Falsifying Speeding Ticket

A Monroe County Sheriff's Office sergeant was arrested Wednesday for falsifying a speeding ticket, officials said.

Sgt. Ralph Williams was charged with falsifying an official document related to the ticket from October 2015. He has been transferred to a civilian position in the communications center, officials said.

Williams was booked into jail Wednesday on the misdemeanor charge. It's unknown if he's hired an attorney.

According to the sheriff's office, Williams pulled over a car for speeding on Oct. 26 at the 89 mile marker. The driver didn't have a license but his girlfriend, a passenger in the car, did.

Williams told them he could arrest them both and would have to contact social services to take custody of her daughter, who was also in the car. The woman pleaded with Williams to give them a break, and he issued a speeding citation to the female passenger, officials said.

Williams told another deputy about what had happened, and the deputy reported it to internal affairs, officials said.

Officials said Williams started as a reserve deputy at the sheriff's office in 2003 and was promoted to sergeant in 2011.
