U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials say more passport control agents are coming to three airports and one seaport in Florida to help handle long immigration lines.

Federal officials say the additional staffing has been promised by Sept. 30, 2015.

Miami International Airport spokesman Greg Chin tells The Miami Herald that the staffing boost will benefit Port Canaveral and the airports in Miami, Fort Lauderdale and Orlando.

South Florida's congressional delegation has been pushing federal agencies to help ease the burden on travelers entering the country through Florida.

Roughly 2,000 new agents will be assigned to 44 ports in 18 states.
