Three dozen companies looking to fill hundreds of positions Thursday

More than 1,100 openings are up for grabs at a job fair in Miami Lakes Thursday.

Some three dozen companies are attending the career fair, which runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Don Shula's Hotel at 6842 Main Street.

Hundreds of people were lined up before the doors opened. Some said they've been unable to find work for months while other said they're unable to get by on the work they do have.

"Actually, I'm working now but it's not enough," Frederick Frederick said. "This would be a second job."

Companies from Macy's to Loews Miami Beach Hotel and Flightstar Aviation will be on hand for the fair, where positions will range from aircraft mechanics to CDL drivers, management and sales associates.

"I'm hopeful, I've been out of a job since September and I would like to see what I can find in accounting, bookkeeping, administration," Odalys Suarez said. "Anything that's open, I need a job."

Loews will be looking to hire over 40 new employees, while Borden Dairy has over 100 new openings. Towne Park has over 50 immediate openings for valet managers, valet supervisors and valet drivers.

"We get the resumes and forward to the managers, they review it and they call the candidates they think are more suitable for the position," said Priscilla Leal, with Loews. "The fact that you come in doesn't guarantee you're gonna get a call but we'll definitely look into your resume."

Attendees are encouraged to pre-register at www.jobnewsmiami.com to avoid lines, bring 30 copies of their resume and dress for a job interview.
