More Than 54,000 Apply for Hialeah Section 8 Program

Following an "overwhelming response" that caused website delays, more than 54,000 applications were accepted for the Hialeah Housing Authority's Section 8 program waiting list, officials said.

The gigantic interest in the application process caused the delays Friday, shortly after the online application process began on the HHA's website, city officials said.

As a result of the delays, the application process was extended three days, finally ending Monday at 3 p.m.

A total of 54,160 applications were received. 2,500 applications will be selected through a random lottery, which will take place June 17. Selected applicants will be notified by June 27.
