Mother Arrested After Son Found Wandering in Miami Gardens

Child neglect charge for mother whose 1-year-old was found wandering street

A Miami Gardens mother is facing a child neglect charge after police say they found her 1-year-old son wandering in a street by himself Tuesday evening.

Mathieu Judite Anice, 28, was arrested on one count of child neglect/no great harm after her son was found near the area of Northwest 33rd Court and 177th Street, Miami Gardens Police said.

Anice was being held on $5,000 bond early Wednesday. It was unknown whether she has an attorney.

At a hearing later on Wednesday, Miami-Dade Juvenile Court Judge Rosa Figueroa appointed a guardian for all five children who were living in Anice's home, and ordered all the children into a state shelter. She also ordered a home study, in which the Department of Children and Families studies the home.

“I do need to tell you the 2-year-old was using profanity, so we need to address what kind of home conditions is going on in the house," Figueroa said.

DCF is investigating the incident. A spokesperson said the agency has a history with the family.

Jail records showed Anice had previously been arrested for child neglect causing great bodily harm. She is currently on probation for running over one of her two twins.

At the family's home Wednesday, Darrell Sessions, the boy's maternal grandmother, expressed frustration with Anice.

"I talked to the mother about all this and she just doesn't listen," Sessions said.
