Mom Who Punched Caseworker Turns Kids In

Canema Atkins fled when DCF came to take her five children away

The mother accused of punching a DCF worker who came to take her kids, then fleeing, was in court Friday to give her children over to authorities and is now being questioned by officials.

DCF caseworker Lovern Alleyne-Babb and a coworker arrived at 404 NW 6th Street in Miami last Friday to remove five children from their home, where they lived with their mother, Canema Atkins.

Alleyne-Babb was reportedly greeted by Atkins, who became enraged when Alleyne-Babb informed her she would be taking her children away and proceeded to attack the case worker. Atkins allegedly punched Alleyne-Babb in the face and stomped on her glasses.

Atkins then bolted with her kids and the Special Victims Unit began searching for the family.

Atkins has not been arrested at this time.

This incident is the most recent in a string of high profile DCF cases. In February, a little girl was found dead in the back of her foster dad's vehicle just days after a DCF worker visited the home, and last month, a four-year-old was found dead in his crib -- later it was revealed DCF had received four hotline calls about his mother.
