In shock and almost speechless, Frantzy Armand's mother anxiously looked through her phone to call her son.
According to a North Miami Police Department arrest report, Armand, 29, is the suspect at the center of multiple Northeast Miami-Dade shootings.
"My son?! Frantzy Armand?" a shocked Micale Chery asked. "No... My son not rude. He's a very very polite kid. Hardworking."
City of Miami Police say this all began around 8:30 a.m. near NW 79th Street when an officer pulled up behind a taxi cab driver, now identified as Armand.
According to police, the man exited his vehicle armed with a high powered rifle and began shooting at the officer.
According to police, while a “Good Samaritan” took the officer to a safe location, the cab driver jumped into the patrol car and took off westbound, firing his weapon randomly out of the window.
A male bystander was hit by gunfire.

Armand then ended up on 118th and San Souci Blvd., where the report states an officer asked him to drop his weapon, but instead he fired at police. The officer returned fire, striking Armand several times.
"At any given moment, he could've killed someone, even a child," said City of Miami Police spokesman, Freddie Cruz.
Frantzy Armand was taken into custody and transported to the hospital for his injuries. He's facing charges including attempted second-degree murder of a law enforcement officer and discharging a firearm in public.
His mother hasn't been able to speak to him, but sends a message to anyone who may have been hurt by her son.
"I'm very sorry. I'm very sorry that happened to them," she said.
