Multi-Million Dollar Fentanyl Stash Found in Car at Broward Hospital

Between $1 and $2 million worth of fentanyl was found hidden in a rental car left in a parking garage at a South Florida hospital, Broward Sheriff's Office officials said.

Detectives were alerted to the car that had been left unattended in an isolated part of the garage at Broward Health North on East Sample Road in Pompano Beach early Monday, officials said.

When deputies searched the car, they found over nine kilograms of the drug in a duffel bag under the floor board in the trunk, officials said. The drugs were taken to the BSO crime lab to determine its potency.

Fentanyl is about one thousand times stronger than street-level heroine, and a conservative estimate puts the street value at $100 to $200 per gram. Depending on the purity of the find, the value can be up to three times as much, officials said.

The DEA is also investigating the find.
