A mother, her pregnant daughter and a teenage boy were injured in an early morning shooting in Liberty City Monday.
Miami Fire Rescue says the shooting occurred in the area of Eighth Avenue and Northwest 70th Street just before 1:30 a.m. in Liberty City.
The victims were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital. They told NBC 6 that the mother was shot in the leg, while her pregnant daughter was shot in the arm. Both women say the bullets are still there.
The teenage victim, Carl Taylor, is a 16-year-old student at Northwestern High School, the family said. He is expected to be ok.
The women told NBC 6 that they were outside with six family members when several people in a car drove up, and two of them began firing at them. The pregnant daughter said she ran for safety, but fell and was shot.
The mother, Tonika Butler, left JMH later Monday. Her 18-year-old daughter, Cache, also left the hospital Monday.
Police believe the shooting stemmed from an argument earlier Sunday.
Taylor is the third Northwestern student to be shot in the past month.
"What are we going to do about this. It's going on and on and on, it's got to stop," Northwestern parent Barbera Ingram said.
