NBC 6 South Florida / WTVJ will air the half-hour special, "Paving the Path: Black Women in South Florida," on Thursday, Feb. 25 at 7 p.m. (EST) in celebration of Black History Month. Hosted by News Anchors Trina Robinson and Jawan Strader, this locally produced half-hour program highlights the unique journeys of a group of remarkable women whose contributions to the community have enriched the lives of African Americans in South Florida.
"Black History Month is not just about honoring the past but an opportunity for us, as a community, to revel in the positive contributions that continue to make a difference in our lives and the chance to look ahead at all the opportunities that exist for our future generations year-round," said Larry Olevitch, President and General Manager at NBC 6 South Florida. "This is a very powerful and moving special and we hope that our viewers enjoy watching it as much as we enjoyed producing and creating it for the communities we serve."
The women featured in the special include Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson, Haitian Activist Marleine Bastien, Miami-Dade Police Division Chief Delma K. Noel-Pratt and Miami-Dade Commissioner Audrey Edmonson. The special will also be streamed live on NBC6.com; for viewers on the go, the special can be watched via the station's free news and weather app.
In addition to producing this half-hour special program, NBC 6 South Florida / WTVJ also produced a series of vignettes that have aired all throughout February and feature Executive Director of The Black Archives, Timothy A. Barber, and Marshall L. Davis of the African Heritage Cultural Arts Center.
