South Florida Takes Part in National Night Out Celebrations

It's National Night Out day and South Florida is joining in!

The National Association of Town Watch launched the annual National Night Out campaign in 1984. In its more than 30 year history, NNO has served as a way to promote police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie in which neighbors lock their doors, turn on their front porch lights, and come outside to meet and fellowship with one another all in the name of community building.

"We have all our toys. SWAT vehicles, police vehicles, motorcycles, boats and horses, and basically displaying the resources we have available for the community," Lt. Freddie Cruz with Miami Police explained.

According to the NATW website, National Night Out now involves over 38.1 million people and 16,540 communities from all fifty states, U.S. Territories, Canadian cities, and military bases worldwide.

Multiple events will be held in honor of National Night Out all over South Florida.
