Man Dies, Comes Back to Life to Sell Health

Brad Beckerman turned his life around after he died nine years ago

Brad Beckerman had to die to really start living.

Nine years ago, Beckerman was 22 and working at a nightclub in Delray Beach when he realized they ran out of limes.

After going to the store, Beckerman was unloading the limes from the back of his car when he was hit by car going 35 mph.

Beckerman's head went through the windshield and his body flew 20 feet down Atlantic Avenue.

"I had blood shooting through both of my ears," Beckerman recalled. "Paramedics pronounced me dead on the scene."

Beckerman was rushed to the hospital and revived just enough to undergo emergency brain surgery. He was placed in a medically-induced coma for 13 days and had six titanium plates inserted in his head.

"I was very badly injured. The doctors thought I'd be a paraplegic," said Beckerman, who is now a 31-year-old walking success story.

He not only made a full recovery, but also turned his life around.

"I stopped anything that was not healthy," he said.

Beckerman recalls drinking and smoking all night as a 22-year-old bachelor, often waking up not knowing where he was or how he got there.

But instead of going back to his party lifestyle after the accident, he started his own healthy beverage company called Bradford Tonic.

In the beginning, Beckerman sold his drink out of his car. But now, Bradford Tonic is on display at health stores around the country, including his top client, Whole Foods.

"It was one of the coolest moments of my life," said Beckerman. "It was like we were legitimized."

Ironically, the credit for the dead-to-life story goes partly to the 92-year-old woman who plowed into Beckerman that night nearly a decade ago.

Right after the accident, Beckerman said he wanted to kill the woman who ran him over. But today, he says he'd give her a hug.

"Suffering through the accident and going through everything has had a positive effect on my life." he said.
