Nephew Accused of Killing North Florida Teacher

A 26-year-old north Florida man is accused of killing his 50-year-old aunt.

Shelly Strickland was found dead inside her car parked outside her home in Perry on June 24. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement arrested Garrett Ashton Arrowood on Saturday morning.

The Tallahassee Democrat reports it is not yet clear what led investigators to Arrowood, who is a millwright in Perry. But a statement released by Arrowood's parents, Danny and Lisa Arrowood, blamed drugs for the incident. They say the family is devastated by Arrowood's suspected involvement in the killing.

Strickland worked 29 years for the Taylor County School District.

Arrowood has been charged with murder. It's not known whether he's retained a lawyer.

A memorial service for Strickland is planned for Monday.
