A South Florida man charged with murder in the death of his girlfriend's 3-year-old son will remain behind bars until trial.
A Broward judge denied bond Tuesday for 29-year-old Corey Gordon, who is charged with first-degree murder in the death of 3-year-old Khyese Anthony Coach, son of his girlfriend, 20-year-old Chantel Haye.
The decision at Tuesday's hearing brought forth a flood of emotions from family members.
"He deserves what he got, he deserves it," said Khyese's grandmother, Genda Haye. "We all hurting, Khyese never coming back, he will rot in jail."
Gordon's mother wept as she repeatedly said "The blood of Jesus!" in the hallway outside the courtroom.
"I know my son did not kill that child and justice is gonna prevail," she said.
Gordon's attorney, Gawane Grant, compared the case to that of Hollywood boy Ahziya Osceola, whose body was found after he was reported missing. In that case, the 3-year-old' stepmother is charged with manslaughter in his death.
"He did not commit this very heinous crime, there was some abuse going into the home," Grant said.
Grant had previously said Haye is responsible for Khyese's death. He said the boy was already bruised up when Gordon picked him up to babysit him Monday while Haye went to work. He said Haye told Gordon she "messed up" and beat the child with an object.

According to the Broward Sheriff's Office, Gordon had agreed to take care of Khyese while Haye went to her first day on the job at a telemarketing company in Boca Raton Monday.
When Gordon picked Haye up from work later in the day, she noticed something was wrong with her son. She thought he was just sleeping but when she touched him, she realized his body was cold.
According to an arrest report, Gordon slapped and boxed the child, and said the child fell down the stairs.
At the time of Khyese's death, there were two prior reports on his family, according to an incident report from Florida DCF.
