A North Miami Beach student won second place in a national science, technology, engineering and math competition.

Nicole Odzer won the second place science award for her project on "reef-building corals and global warming," the Broadcom MASTERS website said.

Shixuan Justin Li, of Lynn Haven, in north Florida, won first place in the area of science for a project on mosquito repellents.

Maria Elena Grimmett, of Jupiter, won the first place in math on "removing pharmaceutical contaminants from groundwater."

Students from other states won also in technology, engineering and math.

Odzer is the daughter of NBC 6 reporter Ari Odzer.
