The Ocala metro area has the highest rate of births from unmarried women in Florida.
New U.S. Census figures released Wednesday show almost 60 percent of the births in metro Ocala were by unmarried women in 2011.
That rate is the 16th highest in the nation.

The metro Palm Coast area, between Jacksonville and Daytona Beach, had the state's lowest rate at 6.2 percent.
The Census says women with more education generally have a lower rate of births out of marriage, and that characteristic was true for Florida.
In addition to having the highest unmarried birth rate in Florida, Ocala has the state's lowest rate of women with a college degree at 11.5 percent.
