An on-duty officer shot a driver in Hialeah after stopping his red Audi Friday evening, police said.
The driver was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital, Hialeah police spokesman Carl Zogby said.
The uniformed officer, who was on duty in a police cruiser, made the traffic stop at West 4th Avenue and West 21st Street. He shot the Audi driver once somewhere near the car at about 6:30 p.m., Zogby said.
The area of the shooting was locked down for hours Friday night as police marked evidence and snapped photos. The State Attorney’s Office had a representative at the scene.
The officer, who was not injured, will be questioned by detectives, Zogby said.
The driver will also be questioned.
"We'll be talking to the guy in the hospital too as part of the investigation, so it's a lot of things we have to cover," Zogby said.
