Officials Working to Collect Stray Dogs in Allapattah Neighborhoods

Dogs on the loose in Allapattah have been an issue for some time. Now, they’re doing something about it with a stray dog operation – partnering with Miami Police, NET and Animal Services.

“It’s part of our safe city initiative to keep our streets clean and keep them safe for all residents,” said Yariel Diaz from NET.

The operation will have several animal services vans going to three zones in the area, looking for stray or loose dogs that belong to someone.

“Restore them to the owners – that’s our goal to keep pets in their homes and educate them on the laws: having a dog running at large, havin dogs vaccinated for rabies and obtaining a license plate tag,” said Sean Gallagher from Miami Dade Animal Services.

For workers of the city and county, it’s all about containing an ongoing issue.

“For some reason it seems to be increasing, which is why we decided to do this today,” said Diaz. “This is the first effort to educate the residents in the area. Part of our duty here is to respond to concerns of our neighbors.”
