A printing error on Palm Beach County absentee ballots has officials working to duplicate thousands of votes already cast, according to the Sun-Sentinel.
Nearly 37,000 absentee ballots are missing the titles of judicial candidate races, leaving vote tabulation machines unable to count the misaligned forms.
Already more than 8,500 absentee ballots have been received by the county's Supervisor of Elections office, and will have to be duplicated by copying them to ballots that can be fed into the machines, all under the watch of elections officials and political party observers.
"I am confident that given all the screw-ups that led to the problem that this is the best of all the bad alternatives going forward," Palm Beach County Republican Party Chairman Sid Dinerstein told the Sun-Sentinel.
It's just the latest ballot bungle in Palm Beach, the county known for the hanging chads of the 2000 election.
Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections Susan Bucher said work may have to go around the clock to finish the work by the Nov. 6 election. She blamed the snafu on the vendor she uses to print the ballots.
"We have a process in place. We are doing it publicly," Bucher told the Sun-Sentinel. "We have a long ways to go."
