Holly might not be a cat, but the pitbull mix may have used up several lives this week.
The 1-year-old dog was dragged behind a truck for nearly two miles before its owner realized what was going on, reports TCpalm.com.
Napolean Davis, the 31-year-old owner, was arrested Monday in Port St. Lucie and charged with animal cruelty.
According to the report, Davis tied the puppy to a 15-foot leash in the back of his truck. Police said he should have put the dog in the front seat with him, but was too lazy to clean it off.
The curious 42-pound dog managed to jump out of the back of the truck at a stop light and went it turned green, Davis took off with Holly struggling to keep up with the accelerating truck.
Several motorists tried to stop Davis, but he kept on trucking and eventually, Holly's little legs gave out and she was dragged the two miles. Someone eventually jumped in front of Davis, who was oblivious to what had happened.
The dog was taken to the local vet with severe injuries. She was dragged so hard her paws were ground down to the bone and she will likely lose three of her toes to amputation, doctors said.
Vets have named the dog Holly because of the Christmas season. Appropriate considering it is a miracle she survived the ordeal.
