A Deerfield Beach man and woman were arrested Wednesday and face multiple counts of animal cruelty, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office

A Deerfield Beach man and a woman were arrested Wednesday on a warrant for a 2009 animal cruelty case, officials said.

Timothy Drayton, 31, and Wanda Faye Hightower, 47, face multiple counts of cruelty to animals, records show. Each was being held on $6,000 bond at the Broward County Jail.

According to the arrest report, the pair owned six dogs that were found on short leashes with no food or water in 2009. The report said the dogs were confined and lived in dirt. The dogs were also underweight, infested with fleas and ticks, and had poor skin and coat conditions.

It was not immediately known if they had an attorney.
