Pair Arrested in Violent Armed Robbery at Miami Beach Shop

It was punches for purses at a boutique on posh West Avenue in South Beach after a shop clerk was brutally attacked during an armed robbery that was caught on camera.

Diamonte Butler, 22, and Tim Marquis Jones, 23, are facing armed robbery and grand theft charges in the Sept. 27 robbery at Consign of the Times at 1935 West Avenue.

Jones is also facing an aggravated battery charge in the attack.

The store's security cameras show the two men come in and Jones attacks the store clerk, punching her repeatedly in the face and then pointing a gun at her head, according to police.

A customer tried hiding behind a clothes rack as the violent scene unfolded. The suspect then pushed and kicked the employee to the floor. The other suspect was still at the front of the store, taking at least a dozen high end purses, including Louis Vuitton and Chanel, police said.

Both men appeared in bond court Thursday where they were ordered held without bond.

"You're not allowed to go to this store called Consign of the Times. Do you understand that sir?" Judge Mindy Glazer told one of the suspects.

It was with the help of the US Marshals Task Force that Miami Beach police detectives found Butler and Jones, authorities said.

The store owner is undoubtedly on edge. She said her employee was so traumatized that she quit and left Florida. Now the store owner keeps the shop door locked.

"We just want to move on from all this. We're open and back doing our thing, doing what we do best and that's my message," owner Carin Kirby said.
