Elderly Woman Killed in Hit and Run on U.S. 1

Miami hit and run leaves one woman dead and causes second accident

Police are looking for the driver of a white pick-up truck they say left the scene of a deadly accident on U.S. 1 in Miami early Wednesday.

Police say the crash happened shortly after 6 a.m. in the area of Southwest 19h Avenue when the white pickup clipped a small Honda in the southbound lanes.

The Honda slammed into a tree in the median, police said. Ana Zuniga, 71, of Aventura, was killed at the scene.

The driver of the white pickup fled the scene. Moments later, a truck that slowed to help the woman in the Honda was involved in a second accident at the same location.

Police said a Nissan Sentra following behind the second truck was forced to slam on their brakes and was hit by a Toyota RAV4.

No one was injured in the second crash, but it backed traffic up for hours as authorities closed U.S. 1 in both directions.

Police say they're looking for two witnesses who were speaking with officers before they left in the chaos after the second crash.
