Palm Beach-Bound Cruise Forced to Return to Bahamas After Hitting Unknown Object

A cruise was forced to turn around after striking an unknown object in the water as it left the Bahamas.

According to a statement from Celebration Cruise Line, passengers aboard the Bahamas Celebration were asked to wear life jackets as the ship returned Friday night to Freeport on Grand Bahama Island.

The ship was due Saturday at the Port of Palm Beach. It will remain in the Bahamas for a damage assessment.

No injuries were reported. It's not clear what the ship struck. Officials said the next two scheduled cruises would be canceled.

Passenger Armondo Fana told The Palm Beach Post that his Halloween cruise "turned out scarier than anyone anticipated." Fana said the passengers would be ferried to Miami, where they would board a shuttle to West Palm Beach.
