Panama City: Keep Bars Open 'til 4 During Spring Break

Commissioners in Panama City have endorsed a 4 a.m. closing time for bars during spring break even though bars in Bay County and nearby Panama City Beach shut down at 2 a.m.

The ordinance passed 3-2 on Tuesday.

The News-Herald of Panama City reports Commissioner John Kady said early closings during March is not right for the city.

But Commissioner Billy Rader agreed with Mayor Gred Brudnicki, citing safety concerns over different closing times for bars.

Commissioner Kenneth Brown also talked about safety concerns but voted for the later closing time. He said many spring breakers will use shuttles or cabs to come to Panama City, which helps the city.

The ordinance will come back to commissioner for final approval on Feb. 24.
