Panel Holding Zika Informational Session Tuesday as Mosquito Season Nears

The humidity is rising and the chances of rain continue to get higher as we approach summer. With mosquito season coming up, South Florida doctors want to keep you informed on the Zika virus.

Local doctors from FIU Baptist Hospital and the Department of Health will share progress on research and debunk any misconceptions as well as provide tips to the community about how to combat the virus.

Zika was a serious concern for the state last year - according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Florida has led the nation with more than one thousand reported cases.

In Miami-Dade County alone, three areas at one point were considered active transmission spots - including one square mile in Wynwood, two areas of Miami Beach and a one square mile part of Little River.

The meeting will happen tonight at West Kendall Baptist Hospital starting at 6:30 p.m. and is open to anyone who wants to have their questions answered by local experts.
