Panthers Begin Road Trip With Win in Montreal

The Panthers opened their road trip in a positive way with a win over the Canadiens on Tuesday

The Florida Panthers began a four-game road trip with a 4-3 overtime win over the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday.

Florida will play ten of the next 12 games overall on the road in what could prove to be a crucial part of the schedule. The Panthers have not played particularly well on the road this season and that will need to change in a hurry. Tuesday's win is a step in the right direction for the Panthers and the team now has an 8-7-1 record.

Trailing by one, Alex Petrovic got the Panthers on the board with his first goal of the season. Petrovic's goal was unassisted and came at the 5:04 mark of the first period.

About ten minutes later, Kyle Rau gave Florida the lead with his second goal of the season. Michael Matheson assisted Rau on the goal and the Panthers would hold onto that lead until the second period.

After Montreal tied the game in the second period, Denis Malgin put Florida back on top with his fourth goal of the season. The goal went on the board at the 17:24 mark and had assists on it from Seth Griffith and Colton Sceviour.

The Canadiens would tie the game again and send things to overtime. It was there that Aaron Ekblad's third goal of the season put Florida on top for good. Assisting on the game-winning goal were Vincent Trocheck and Jussi Jokinen.

Florida will stay in Canada and take on the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
