Panthers Fall in Overtime

The Panthers lost 4-3 to the Islanders in overtime on Sunday and now trail in the series

The Florida Panthers fell by a final score of 4-3 in overtime to the New York Islanders on Sunday.

With the loss, Florida now trails in the series 2-1 with the next game also coming in New York. The Panthers led this one by two goals twice, but were unable to contain an electric New York offense.

It was a familiar face that put Florida on the board first when Reilly Smith connected on his fourth goal of the series. The game was only 2:25 old when the score occurred and it came with assists from Alex Petrovic and Michael Matheson.

With the lead still at one, Florida doubled its advantage early into the second period. Aleksander Barkov's first goal of the series came with help from Smith and Jonathan Huberdeau.

After New York scored a goal of its own, Florida took a two-goal lead once again later into the second period. This time it was Nick Bjugstad with his second goal of the series. Smith assisted on this one as well along with Dmitry Kulikov.

Roberto Luongo ended up stopping 35 of the 39 save chances he had, but allowing three goals in the second period alone was the biggest issue. The goal in OT came at the 12:31 mark.

The series will continue with game four on Wednesday at 8:00 p.m.
