Panthers Retain Jagr With One-Year Deal

Jaromir Jagr's stay in Florida will continue as the team signed him to a new contract on Sunday

The Florida Panthers and Jaromir Jagr enjoyed their brief time together in 2014-15 and decided to continue that with a new contract.

The new deal is for one-year and is reportedly worth around $3.5 million. It had been reported recently that Jagr wanted to stay in Florida and that interest was mutual.

Ever since Jagr arrived in Florida, he showed enthusiasm and production that exceeded many of his younger counterparts. Despite being 43 years old, Jagr not only was dependable but was one of Florida's best talents down the stretch.

Jagr amassed 18 points including six goals in only 20 games with Florida. His last goal came on Saturday in what was Florida's last game of the season. The score ended up being a game-winner which allowed the Panthers to end the year on a high note.

There is no telling if the 2015-16 season will be Jagr's last but he appears to have plenty left in his tank. Florida is the eighth franchise to have Jagr on its roster in what has been one of the finest NHL careers in history.

The Panthers missed the playoffs but had a productive and positive year. A season after being one of the worst teams in the entire league, the Panthers had 91 points. In some seasons, that point total would send Florida to the playoffs, but this was a very competitive year.

With Jagr's contract out of the way, Florida can now focus on other needs. The team is close to title contention and will likely make a few transactions as the off-season continues.
