Panthers Score Five Times in Win

The Panthers posted five goals on Saturday in a 5-2 victory over the Avalanche

The Florida Panthers stayed busy offensively in their 5-2 victory over the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday.

The five goals for Florida were a season-high and gave the team seven points this year. The Panthers sit at 3-1-1 on the season and have put an end to a short skid. Florida had fell in a shootout and lost in regulation in its last two outings.

With his team down one, Aaron Ekblad tied the game up at the 1:30 mark of the second period. Jonathan Marchessault and Jaromir Jagr assisted on Ekblad's first goal of the season, which came during a Florida power play.

As the second period neared its end, Shane Harper found the back of the net for the first time in his NHL career. Harper's memorable goal put Florida ahead by one and had assists credited to Gregg McKegg and Derek MacKenzie.

The scoring would continue for Florida early in the third period when Jonathan Marchessault made it a 3-1 game. The goal for Marchessault was already his third of the season and was unassisted.

About a minute later, Harper scored once more to give him two goals on the season and in his career. Harper's second goal came with help from Alex Petrovic.

After Colorado scored, Vincent Trocheck put Florida back ahead by three with his third goal of the season  Trocheck's score was the last one of the game and it was an unassisted goal.

Roberto Luongo was solid in this one with 26 saves on his 28 opportunities. The win helped Florida's goalie improve to 3-1-0 on the season.

The Panthers will begin a four-game road trip on Tuesday when they travel to Pittsburgh to take on the Penguins.
