Panthers Score Three Unanswered Goals in Win

The Panthers scored three straight goals to beat the Avalanche 3-1 on Friday

Three unanswered goals helped the Florida Panthers beat the Colorado Avalanche 3-1 on Friday.

The victory improved Florida's record to 14-13-5 and gave the team 33 points on the season. The win also gave the Panthers their first win in three tries, and only the team's second win in the last last seven games.

Jason Demers put Florida on the board first late in the second period to tie the game. Seth Griffith and Aleksander Barkov assisted Demers with his fifth goal of the season.

With his team at a disadvantage, Reilly Smith found the back of the net at the 6:37 mark of the third period. Smith's shorthanded goal was his sixth of the season and put Florida ahead by one. Assisting on the go-ahead goal were Demers and Derek MacKenzie.

Michael Matheson gave Florida some insurance later in the third period with his third goal of the season. Colton Sceviour assisted on Matheson's score.

James Reimer was solid in the net for the Panthers with 30 saves on the 31 attempts he had.

Florida will now have three days off before beginning a five-game homestand on Tuesday against the Buffalo Sabres.
