The Florida Panthers tweaked their roster with the arrival of Logan Shaw on Saturday in place of Rocco Grimaldi.
Shaw had been playing with the Portland Pirates in the American Hockey League, which is where Grimaldi will now head to. The Pirates are Florida's AHL affiliate and both players have spent time in each of the locations this year.
The move while small in nature comes as a bit of a surprise after some recent solid play by Grimaldi. Just 12 days ago, Grimaldi scored twice in a big win over the Toronto Maple Leafs. The 23-year old also added an assist on April 9th in a win over the Carolina Hurricanes.
Grimaldi also saw time on the ice in Florida's first two playoff games this year, albeit not much. In the first game, Grimaldi had two shots on goal during a barrage of shots fired at the New York Islanders' net.
Shaw meanwhile has spent significant time with the Panthers this season, taking part in 53 games overall. Grimaldi meanwhile only was with Florida for 20 games in the regular season. During his time on the main roster, Shaw has compiled seven points with five of those being goals. Shaw also added 14 points in his team with Portland which consisted of 11 more goals.
Shaw is expected to be ready if needed for Florida's next game. His time on the ice will likely be on par with Grimaldi's.
The Panthers and Islanders will resume their first round series on Sunday at Barclays Center. The series is tied after two games in Sunrise.
