Panthers Win in Another Shootout

The Panthers stayed strong in shootouts with their 2-1 win over Columbus on Saturday

The Florida Panthers continued their success in shootouts with a 2-1 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday.

This was the second shootout for Florida in the last three games and the team has won both. Overall, the Panthers have now won three of their last four games and sit at 11-9-1 on the season. In games that extended past regulation this season, Florida is an impressive 6-0-1.

With the first period winding down, Jaromir Jagr put Florida on the board and on top with his third goal of the season. Shawn Thornton and Aleksander Barkov assisted on the goal.

Columbus would tie the game in the third period to send the game to overtime. In the extra five minutes, neither team could find the net which forced another shootout. Roberto Luongo who had a strong game continued that success during the shootout.

Luongo had 36 saves in the game and was a perfect 3-3 in the shootout. It was one of the finest games of the season for the veteran goalie who improved his record on the season to 7-6-0.

The game-winning goal in the shootout was put home by Aleksander Barkov. The score came after Vincent Trocheck had his attempt stopped.

Florida will try to keep the wins coming when it travels to North Carolina on Sunday to face the Hurricanes.
