The Florida Panthers were unable to extend their winning streak as the Ottawa Senators came away 3-1 winners on Thursday.
The game was the penultimate one of the regular season for the Atlantic Division champion Panthers. With the Pittsburgh Penguins winning on Thursday, Florida is now locked out of the second-seed in the Eastern Conference. Pittsburgh has 104 points, while the Panthers have 101 points.
Starting for the second time in the last three games, Al Montoya stopped 20 of the 23 chances he had in net. Montoya is giving Roberto Luongo some much-needed rest ahead of the playoffs and is also getting work in to stay game-ready if needed. With the playoff picture pretty much set, the Panthers are more focused on getting prepared for the second-season at this juncture.
Jaromir Jagr made sure that Florida would get on the board when he scored for the 27th time this season. Jagr's third period goal had an assist on it from Aleksander Barkov and Alex Petrovic.
After posting four goals in three straight games, Florida was unable to keep up that kind of high-octane offense. The Panthers did make Ottawa goalie Craig Anderson work as they gave him 34 save attempts. Anderson was able send away all but one of them.
The Panthers were kept off the board on their lone power play opportunity of the game, and went 1-2 on penalty kill tries.
Florida's final game of the regular season will be on Saturday against the Carolina Hurricanes at 7 p.m.
