Parents of Wandering Hialeah Girl Arrested

Parents charged with child neglect

The parents of a young girl found wandering the streets of Hialeah on Tuesday morning have been arrested for child neglect.

Carlos Olivera, 31, and Jessica Pinon, 23, were both charged with child neglect for the incident. Olivera has also been charged with child abuse.

The young girl, who is between 1 and 2, was found wandering the streets around 9:30 a.m. in the area of West 9th Avenue and 74th Street wearing a pink "Bratz" tank top and diapers, police said.

After sending out an alert, police were able to locate the girl's parents.

According to police, Olivera hit his toddler daughter with a belt and then he and Pinon fell asleep. Police found marks on the child's body from the beating.

As her parents slept, the little girl slipped out of the house, located in the 900 block of West 74th Street, through an open door, police claim.
