‘My Heart was Pounding': Passenger on Turbulent Flight to MIA

Four people were treated for minor injuries after a plane inbound to Miami from Grenada went through some severe turbulence.

The American Airlines Flight 982 arrived at Miami International Airport just before noon Thursday. Passengers told NBC 6 that several people hit their heads as the plane flew through turbulent skies.

"My heart was pounding and hands shaking," said Hayden Redhead, a passenger on the flight.

Redhead and his family made the trip from Grenada, "We had some previous turbulence but the captain told us it's nothing to worry about."

He said the turbulence they experienced initially after taking off was nothing like what happened shortly before landing.

"He came on and said, 'Flight attendants take your seats immediately,' and I would think within three seconds of that we just dropped completely out," Redhead explained.

He said everyone who wasn't wearing a seat belt was jolted up toward the ceiling.

"I was asleep, fortunately, because it woke me up. By the time I woke up, it was all over, but based on what was happening, what I see, it was pretty rough," another passenger added.

Once the plane landed, paramedics arrived and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue treated four passengers. Officials said they all had minor injuries.

"Thank God that everyone seems to be fine except for the minor scrapes and bruises," Redhead said. "We are just grateful to God that everything is okay."
