Pedestrian Struck and Killed at Miami International Airport

Police investigating after pedestrian is struck and killed by SUV at airport

Authorities are investigating after a pedestrian was struck and killed at Miami International Airport Friday.

The incident happened on a second level departure area outside Concourses H and J, officials said.

Miami-Dade Police said the 51-year-old man had arrived from a business trip with a coworker and was walking in a crosswalk when he was struck by a white Chevy SUV. The coworker wasn't injured.

Airport officials said crosswalk markings are clear across the roads.

"We have made every effort to make these markings very clear and as you can see they are marked pretty clearly," said Lauren Stover, Assistant Director for Public Safety, Security and Communications.

The woman who was driving the SUV was going less than 20 mph, police said. She was questioned and released without being charged.

"At this time it does not appear that speed was a factor," said Miami-Dade Police Spokeswoman Robin Pinkard. "It was a short distance from where the vehicle stopped."
